Unique New WFI Cooler from Alfa Laval!

In my 35 year history of servicing the Delaware Valley’s engineered equipment needs, I have never seen such a rapid acceptance of a single product as the pharmaceutical industry’s acceptance of the Pharma-X point of use cooler for Water for Injection (WFI) and Purified Water (PW) systems. I believe the reason this product has been so welcomed by our customers with so many repeat orders is due to these characteristics:

Characteristics

Compact design, complete with smooth stainless steel enclosure, insulation and controls

Innovative, seamless and electro-polished tube-in-tube design with no internal welds, eliminating the risk of cross-contamination between the product and service fluids

Virtually maintenance free with no internal gaskets, minimizing downtime

Minimal waste of valuable WFI or PW due to:

a) Automatic equilibration to the designed-for WFI or USP outlet temperature within seconds

b) Low hold-up volume

c)  No dead legs on the product side, hence no flushing required before use

The Pharma-X can be steam-sterilized

Cooling water demand is very low due to the counter-current and tube-in- tube design.

For quick and easy installation, the Pharma-X is supplied as a complete, insulated module in a smooth stainless steel enclosure for flush wall mounting. It can also be provided as a “bare” tube-in-tube heat exchanger without valves, enclosure and insulation for recessed mounting.

Working Principle

To maintain optimum sanitary conditions when the Pharma-X Point of Use Cooler is in “stand-by” (no sampling) mode, hot water from the main loop enters the tube-in-tube heat exchanger section via a pitot tube, then flows continuously through the point-of-use cooler and back to the main loop (Figure 1).

Switching from “stand-by” mode to sampling mode enables cold WFI or PW to be withdrawn within seconds Figure 2).

Standard Sizes

There are six standard models, TT211, TT3151, TT312, TT3152, TT411 and TT4151.

Documentation

The Pharma-X is delivered with a documentation package including drawings, material certificates, operation and maintenance manual, pressure test certificate and welder’s certificate.
